thailand fifa Bangkok one Feb 22 2024

In the most recent Fifa global rankings, the Thailand men’s football team has made an impressive leap of 12 positions, moving up to the 101st spot from 113th, as announced by the world football governing body.

The Football Association of Thailand communicated through a Facebook post that this ascent reflects the team’s commendable performances at the AFC Asian Cup tournament in Qatar.

Despite being largely seen as likely to remain at the bottom of the Group stage, the team exceeded expectations by advancing to the last 16 as the second-best team in its group, achieving one win and two losses.

Thailand currently leads all teams in Southeast Asia, with Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore following in ranking.

At the global level, Argentina maintains its position as the top team, followed by France, the runner-up in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Looking ahead, Thailand is set to play against South Korea in the World Cup qualifiers in Seoul on March 21, with the return leg taking place at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok five days later. In Group C, Thailand presently holds the second position after South Korea, with one win and one loss. China and Singapore are the other teams in the group.
