Thailand’s 2028 World Pride bid is to be strengthened by the Bangkok Pride parade.

In preparation for its quest to host World Pride 2028, Bangkok will have a Pride parade on June 4 with the theme “Door to Equal Asia.” The festival will be bigger this year than last, according to Waaddao Chumaporn, the creator of Bangkok Pride, who told the Bangkok Post that this will highlight Thailand’s readiness to host the international celebration in 2028.

Together with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), more than 40 civil society organizations, and representatives from the public and business sectors, Naruemit Pride is organizing the forthcoming parade. The parade will emphasize the value of health and well-being within the LGBTQ+ community and will feature six marching groups, each of which will symbolize a different color of the pride flag. According to Bangkok Post, it would also spread social justice messages for people who are disabled and members of ethnic minorities.

On June 4, the parade will start at 2:00 PM and end at 3:30 PM, beginning at the Pathumwan intersection in front of the Bangkok Arts and Cultural Center. “About 20,000 people attended the march at Silom Road last year,” said Waaddao. We hope to draw 20,000 marchers and 100,000 onlookers this year.

The event will use about 2,000 volunteers, who will work under the direction of the BMA and the Metropolitan Police Bureau. A total of 38 organizations, including representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, the Justice Ministry, UN agencies, and other embassies, will march in the parade to show their support for LGBTQ+ rights.

Due to its tolerance, Waaddao emphasized Thailand’s ability to support the LGBTQ+ community globally, referring to it as a “safe space” for LGBTQ+ people, particularly those from hostile countries. She said that Thailand’s tourism, entertainment, media, and health and wellness sectors should help it tap into the LGBTQ+ travel market.

There will be other parades across the nation to spread awareness and tolerance. Additionally, on May 29 in front of the BACC building, the Naruemit Pride group plans to host an art exhibition named “Road to Bangkok World Pride 2028.”

The relevance of the Pride parade was emphasized by Waaddao, who said, “The Pride parade is not just about celebrating who we are; it’s also about improving the quality of life for the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, we want to urge the government to swiftly pass LGBTQ+-friendly legislation so that our nation may really embrace the LGBTQ+ community. If we can hold annual Pride events, we will invite our neighbors to live in equality and demonstrate that we are ready to host World Pride in 2028.
