“They carried out a low fly-by to ensure that all gears were down. Cargolux declared in a statement on May 20, 2023, “The aircraft landed safely with the emergency services on site. At roughly 11:30 am local time (UTC +2), according to data from Flightradar24.com, the crew opted to cancel the landing attempt and circle around LUX in a holding pattern at 3,900 feet. The low fly-past was then carried out by the Cargolux pilots so that Air Traffic Control (ATC) could determine whether the landing gear was in place before attempting to land again at 11:47 a.m. local time (UTC +2).

Before successfully landing the Boeing 747-8F at the airport at 12 o’clock local time (UTC +2), the crew squawked 7700, the code for a general emergency, just before touching down at LUX at 11:57 local time (UTC +2).

Another Cargolux Boeing 747F, a -400F, lost its right-body landing gear bogie on May 14, 2023, after detaching upon landing at LUX. Following the incident, the LUX operator closed the runway, and operations were resumed on May 15, 2023.
