The Department of Livestock Development stated on Friday that Malaysia has started importing eggs

According to department chief Somchuan Ratanamungklanon, the initial phase of the agreement is in force from now until May 30.

According to Somchuan, four Thai enterprises have already showed interest in shipping eggs to Malaysia.

Due to growing production costs and a shortage of animal feed as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Malaysia is currently experiencing a severe egg shortage.

Since November of last year, it has been importing eggs from Sri Lanka and India.

According to sources in Malaysian media, 968 million eggs are consumed on average by Malaysians each month.

43 million eggs may be produced in Thailand per day, with 1.5 million of those eggs being exported.

Following Taiwan’s decision to ban poultry exports due to an avian flu outbreak in the area last month, Malaysia decided to import eggs from Thailand.

The Department of Livestock Development anticipates Malaysia extending the agreement to import eggs through the end of the calendar year.

Egg shipments to Malaysia, according to Somchuan, won’t influence domestic supplies because production and consumption in Thailand are balanced.
