Transgender wedding sets internet alight

Transgender pioneer marries handsome partner in customary ceremony

The intricately planned ritual adhered to the traditional Peranakan manner, which was introduced to the area six centuries ago with the first wave of Chinese immigrants.

At Phuket’s Baan Ar-Jor, Poy, who took first place in the 2004 Miss Tiffany and Miss International Queen pageants, wed Oak Bhavagha Hongyok. The 84-year-old Sino-colonial estate houses the mansion of the Hongyok family, a renowned restaurant, and a museum.

The tin business in Phuket dates back to the early days, according to Oak’s family history. Tan Jin Nguan, the family patriarch, was a Chinese immigrant who established tin mining in the province and was given the royal surname “Hong Yok” for expanding the sector.

Poy’s background is very excellent. After winning the beauty pageants at the age of 18, she rose to prominence in Thailand and the surrounding countries’ entertainment business. She has experience modeling, acting, and appearing in music videos.

She transitioned to Hong Kong cinema in 2013, working for Universal Artist Management Company and collaborating with celebrities including Zhang Jiahui, Gu Tianle, and Liu Qingyun.

Also, she has been a steadfast supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.

For the ceremony, which was only attended by family and close friends, the bride and groom were dressed in traditional Peranakan wedding outfits, which cost roughly 20 million baht each.

Poy donned an antique gold necklace, jewels, and a traditional “Baba” bridal gown embroidered with gold thread. She also donned a “hua kuan,” or flower crown, crafted by skilled workers in the province of Ranong out of pure gold. Three months were needed to complete the crown.

Bangkok’s K Premsilp, a renowned store renowned for its superb craftsmanship and clients, including King Rama lX, produced the bride’s shoes. The shoes were created and embroidered by master craftsman Sorapol Thirawong from the finest Australian sheepskin with a natural gold tint.

It took months to finish the bride and groom’s bridal attire.

Twenty years have passed since Poy and Oak first met. He is her best friend’s brother. At her bachelorette celebration last month in Thailand, she started using his family name.

She currently belongs to one of Phuket’s most well-known families. She has been hugged by them.
