Turkish Airlines to order 10 more A350’s

Turkish Airlines has confirmed its decision to acquire 10 more Airbus A350-900s as part of its expansion strategy. The A350s will be delivered between 2025 and 2027. Turkish Airlines aims to meet the growing demand and sustain its growth by adding the right aircraft to its fleet, including the A350, 787, and 777X.

Turkish Airlines shared that it has decided to acquire 10 more Airbus A350-900s. The flag carrier of Turkey made the announcement as part of a disclosure to its investors last week.

A hint of what’s to come

While it might not be the substantial order the aviation industry anticipates, Turkish Airlines has confirmed that at least 10 A350s will arrive at its facilities between 2025 and 2027. The operator has expressed that the order adheres to its overall expansion strategy.

Turkish Airlines shared the following with its investors in a statement  In line with our Incorporation’s growth targets, our Board of Directors decided to purchase a total of 10 A350-900 aircraft from Airbus to be delivered in 2025, 2026, and 2027.”

We have been eagerly awaiting to hear an update from Turkish Airlines regarding an order for over 600 aircraft. The airline teased such an order back in May, and it was hinted that the official announcement would be made in June. However, the carrier shared that it would delay the revelation by two months at the IATA AGM in Istanbul.

Yet, there was another postponement to the announcement last month. The only public progress made since then is this confirmation of 10 A350s.

The fleet mix

A350s will only make up a portion of the broader 600-aircraft order. There will be a balance of narrowbodies and widebodies flying across the network.

The Chairman of Turkish Airlines, Ahmed Bolat, previously noted that the order will include the A320neo family Boeing 737 MAX, 787, and 777-9 models. Thus, when it comes to long-haul units, the A350 will team up with the Dreamliner and 777X across the skies.

Flying to more countries than any other airline, Turkish Airlines needs the right vessels to sustain its growth. Its holdings already have 14 A350s and 20 787s, which are just a few years old on average. However, over 50 A330s and more than 40 777s support these aircraft on long-distance missions. On average, the A330s are nearly 11 years old, while the 777s are nine.
