U.S. officials announced that Ukraine has agreed to a peace deal brokered by the Trump administration to end nearly four years of conflict with Russia, with only minor details remaining to be finalized. Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov expressed confidence that President Zelenskyy might visit the U.S. before the end of November to seal the agreement.
While the U.S. and Ukrainian officials have discussed Zelenskyy’s potential visit to the U.S., no final plan has been confirmed. U.S. officials, including Secretary of Army Dan Driscoll, are working in Abu Dhabi with Russian counterparts, with progress described as optimistic. President Trump indicated that some disagreements remain but emphasized that a deal is close, and he may meet with Zelenskyy and Putin once finalized.
Russia has yet to respond publicly to the agreement and expects the U.S. to share the final proposal, which reportedly aligns with earlier understandings between Trump and Putin. Umerov and other officials noted consensus on core terms, but details are still being negotiated.
The talks follow recent diplomatic meetings in Geneva, where discussions included proposals that Ukraine has previously rejected, such as ceding parts of Donetsk and halting NATO aspirations. The White House and Ukrainian officials are hopeful a peace deal may be achieved soon, with some NATO members viewing the proposed framework as a starting point. Tensions remain, especially regarding Russia’s ongoing advances in Ukraine’s east.
