Various support programs were responsible for increase in the number of registered electric cars (EVs)

This is a part of Thailand’s ambitions to establish itself as a hub for EV adoption and production in the region.

Anucha Burapachaisri, a government spokesperson, reported an increase in EV registrations to 8,522 in March from 4,543 in January. Motorbikes (2,263) and vehicles (6,205 units) with fewer than seven seats made up the majority of the EVs registered in March.

Anucha asserted that the government’s support for EVs will aid Thailand in creating a sustainable economy that protects the environment and acts as a critical first step for the development of a low-carbon society.

Depending on the battery size, buyers of four-wheel EVs receive savings ranging from 70,000 to 150,000 baht (2,050 to 4,400 USD).

A 18,000 baht subsidy is offered for the purchase of e-motorcycles. Import taxes on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have been reduced for manufacturers by 20% for vehicles priced between 2 million and 7 million baht and by 40% for those priced under 2 million baht.

Thailand aims to become an EV hub, with electric vehicles accounting for 30% of all automobile production by 2030 and combustion-engine vehicle sales altogether ceasing by 2035.
