In Chaiyaphum, a 70-year-old man passed away due to heatstroke while sleeping. The victim, who had pre-existing medical conditions such as high blood pressure, was found in a state of heatstroke.
Colonel Winn Yu Pheon Laat, the investigating officer at Ban Thaen Police Station in Chaiyaphum Province, received a report of a 70-year-old deceased male of unknown cause found in a hut in the middle of a field in Nong Khu Village, Group 1, Nong Khu Subdistrict, Ban Thaen District, Chaiyaphum Province. The police were assisted by a disaster rescue team from Sawaang Khun Tham Station in Ban Thaen District and a doctor from Ban Thaen Hospital to conduct the investigations.
At the scene, the deceased, identified as Mr. Hom Chamnan, aged 70, was found on a mattress in the hut wearing only trousers.
According to relatives, Mr. Hom lived alone in the hut without access to electricity, meaning there were no electrical devices like lights or fans. His family provided daily meals, but the lack of modern amenities was due to the absence of electricity in the hut.
In addition to this, Mr. Hom had high blood pressure and regularly received medication for blood pressure management from Ban Thaen Hospital. It is uncertain whether he consistently took the medication as he lived alone.
Colonel Winn Yu, along with the on-duty doctor from Ban Thaen Hospital, carried out the initial funeral procedures at the scene. No signs of struggle or violence were evident; it is suspected that the extreme heat, reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius in the afternoon to evening, likely led to Mr. Hom’s death from heatstroke or hyperthermia.
