According to Tipanan Sirichana, the deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, construction on the railway line between Nong Khai and Thanaleng, close to Vietniane, was finished on June 30, 2022, and it is currently in use.
Nowadays, the train service runs twice daily, making it simple for Thai and Lao citizens to travel.
In the following two years, freight trains with 25 carriages will do 16 round trips every day. According to Tipanan, there will be 24 round journeys and 25 carriages per day by 2026. This would be in addition to the four daily services that are typically provided by international passenger trains (round trip).
The government has hastened the construction of the Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project, Phase 1 from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima, a distance of 253 kilometers with six stations:
Bangkok Apiwat Central Station, Don Mueang, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Pak Chong, and finishing at Nakhon Ratchasima. One depot and an investment of 179.413 billion baht are involved (Chiang Rak Noi).
Two road maintenance plants (Saraburi and Khok Sa-ad) are now being built, with a 4.279 billion baht investment budget. On the 12.23 km route between the stations of Ayutthaya and Pak Chong, it also entails building an 8 km long railway tunnel. It is expected to start running in 2027.
