The Thai Court of Justice urges Thai citizens not to drive after drinking during Songkran.

After noticing an increase in traffic accidents over the last two years, Thailand’s Court of Justice has cautioned citizens not to drive drunk during the approaching Songkran holiday.

As Songkran approaches, many people will return to their hometowns to spend time with their family, engage in traditional ceremonies and festivities, and take vacations to various tourist places, according to Mr. Sorawit Limprangsi, spokesman for the Court of Justice.

As a result, it is critical to plan the journey ahead of time, adopt safe routes, and prevent traffic offenses in order to limit the chance of accidents or losses. orawit stated that the Court of Justice records accident statistics during Songkran every year, and that for the previous two years during the 7 Hazardous Days campaign, there has been a noteworthy increase in road accidents.

In 2022, a total of 17,909 people were prosecuted for traffic violations. The most common infraction was driving under the influence of alcohol, which was committed by 15,608 people, accounting for 87.15% of all cases. The second most common infraction was driving without a license, which was committed by 1,274 people, accounting for 7.11% of the total.

Driving under the influence of drugs accounted for 980 people, or 5.47%, and reckless driving accounted for 47 people, or 0.26%. Traffic violations have climbed by 3,395 people, or 27.8%, since 2021, according to Sorawit. “This demonstrates that drivers continue to be careless, potentially endangering themselves and others on the road.”

The spokesman asked residents to avoid driving while intoxicated, to be considerate of other road users, and to be responsible members of society. This will assist to reduce accidents and the number of cases taken to trial.
