Sat. night saw the arrival in Bangkok of 132 additional Thai evacuees from Sudan.

132 Thai nationals, many of whom were students, were evacuated from Sudan in a second wave and landed safely in Bangkok last night (Saturday) on a flight operated by the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), increasing the overall number of evacuees to 213 as of this point.

On the same flight from Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, three Chinese nationals and one Indonesian arrived. ACM Alongkorn Wannarat, Chief of the Air Force, received everyone at the airport.

Before being transferred to their hotel for the night, the new guests were examined by public health officials for respiratory illnesses. Those who were diagnosed with illnesses are receiving the appropriate care.Since the majority of the newcomers reside in southern Thailand, the RTAF has scheduled a C-130 transport aircraft to transport them to Pattani province tomorrow.

On another RTAF flight on Monday, the following group of evacuees is anticipated to touch down in Bangkok.

One of the returnees, Mustafakim Jehni, claimed to have lived in Sudan for almost 12 years and to have operated a Thai restaurant and spa in Khartoum. Because of the constant violence, he claimed, the situation in Sudan has gotten so horrible that he has decided to leave.

He recounted having to pass through multiple armed checkpoints on the way from Khartoum to the Port of Sudan, but they didn’t harm the evacuees. He also said that he and the others had to wait for two days at the port before they could board a ship for Jeddah.
