Thai AirAsia X is considering launching a new route between Bangkok and Almaty in Kazakhstan next year. The airline plans to add three more aircraft to its fleet, in order to service new routes and accommodate the projected increase in tourist arrivals to Thailand.
The Thai government’s visa-free policy for travelers from China and Kazakhstan has contributed to a significant rise in arrivals from Kazakhstan this year. Thai AirAsia X aims to attract both tourists from Kazakhstan to Thailand and Thai tourists to explore Kazakhstan.
The airline is also exploring other potential markets in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia. However, due to global demand, it has been challenging for Thai AirAsia X to acquire new planes for its fleet. Despite this, the airline’s domestic routes have seen a recovery and are now at pre-pandemic levels.
Thai AirAsia’s executive chairman emphasizes the importance of domestic tourism amid the current global economic volatility and geopolitical risks. The government may not extend subsidies for the aviation sector, as the situation has been improving this year.
