According to IQAir, Bangkok and Chiang Mai in the top 4 most polluted cities in the world

Over the previous few weeks, Chiang Mai has consistently topped the rankings, but Chiang Rai, which is not on the list, has scored even better on the IQAir scale.

On Tuesday, Chiang Rai recorded an air quality index of 199, while Chiang Mai and Bangkok both registered 177 and 157.

There are six ranges on the scale: 0–50 (excellent air quality), 51–100 (moderate), 101–150 (unhealthy for some groups), 15–200 (unhealthy), 20–300 (extremely unhealthy), and over 301 (dangerous).

According to IQAir, the following 10 cities had the poorest air quality in the world as of 10am:

1. Nepal’s Kathmandu, with 186

Chiang Mai, has 177.

3. Bangladesh’s Dhaka, at 164

Bangkok, with 157

154. Johannesburg, South Africa

153. Kolkata, India

Shenyang, China (151), 7.

Kuching, Malaysia, at position 142

According to IQAir, the average concentration of dangerous PM2.5 air pollution was 67.3 mcg in Bangkok, 98.1 mcg in Chiang Mai, and 117.8 mcg in Chiang Rai.

The safe level of PM2.5 in Thailand is 50mcg, which is associated with early death from heart and/or lung diseases.

The Pollution Control Department reports that Chiang Mai’s Chiang Dao district had the highest PM2.5 level at 134 mcg, followed by Muang district (102 mcg), Mae Chaem (76 mcg), and Hot (56 mcg).As of 7am, 29 air quality monitoring stations in Bangkok indicated excessive PM2.5 pollution levels.

The majority of the capital’s PM2.5 values ranged from 38 to 58 mcg, according to the Bangkok Air Quality Centre.

Residents of locations with high levels of air pollution are encouraged to spend less time outside and to wear protective equipment, such as face masks. A doctor should be consulted by anyone who experiences a cough, trouble breathing, eye irritation, headache, nausea, or tiredness.
