Final Coalition MOU does not include the lese majeste modification

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines the policies to be executed under a Pita-led administration, will be released this afternoon (Monday) by the Move Forward Party and its coalition allies.

The promise made by Move Forward to change the lèse majesté legislation is not included in the draft of the MoU, according to the Thairath website.

Pheu Thai and Thai Sang Thai are two of the alliance parties who have distanced themselves from the issue. They claimed that despite joining the coalition government led by Move Forward, they will continue to oppose changes to the lèse majesté statute.

Prachachat, Pue Thai Rumphlang, Seri Ruam Thai, Plung Sungkom Mai, and Fair make up the other parties in the coalition.

The policies listed in the MoU, according to the Thairath website, include comprehensive land reform and the enactment of amnesty legislation (apart from offenses involving corruption and causing death).

They would be in favor of amending the Constitution, restoring justice to those who were victimized by the coup, decentralization, military reform, reforms to the liquor industry, ending military conscription, legalizing same-sex unions, addressing the rising cost of living, implementing zero-based budgeting, increasing support for children and the elderly, and creating an open government.

Because it is the anniversary of the day when current Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha staged the coup in 2014, today has been chosen for the release of the MOU.

The press conference will start at 4:30 p.m., the time that Prayut put the coup into action.
