Rise in Covid-19 cases but there is no cause for panic

The Department of Disease Control reports that the total number of Covid-19 cases reported by hospitals during the past week was 2,970, with 42 fatalities, for an average death rate of six per day.

The increase is consistent with predictions that Covid cases and fatalities would increase due to increased interaction over the Songkran holiday and the reopening of schools, according to the department’s director-general Opas Karnkawinpong on Monday.

According to him, there were on average 423 cases per day over the previous week. Of the total 2,970, pneumonitis has been identified in 425 persons, while 253 others required tracheal intubation.

However, fewer deaths were reported this week than the previous one, when about 60 were.

According to Opas, the 608 group, who typically get the illness through family members who go outside for employment, is responsible for the majority of fatalities.

Patients who are over 60, have one or more chronic conditions, and are pregnant are included in the 608 groups.

According to him, the bulk of patients have either not had vaccinations or have not received enough dosages.

Opas advised people who were at risk to get booster shots and advised those who had Covid symptoms to avoid close contact with their elderly relatives or to wear masks if it was impossible to prevent it.

The likelihood of a new epidemic has the public acting frightened. Due to a shortage of beds, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital posted on Facebook last Friday that it was unable to accept any more Covid patients.

The hospital stated that there are no open beds for Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) or inpatient department (IPD).

Dr. Nithipat Chiarakun, an associate professor at Siriraj Hospital, previously stated that the increase in cases is partly due to a decrease in public awareness of COVID.

The virus is strong when a person’s protection is weakened, he continued, adding that the most recent omicron strains can spread swiftly.

The Department of Medical Services, on the other hand, recently maintained that it could manage this scenario, stating that the hospitals under its supervision still have the space to take on additional Covid 19 patients.

The hospital’s Director-General, Dr. Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, claimed that little more than 22% of the beds are now filled.
