Laos is set to introduce a new air route between Savannakhet and Bangkok as part of its efforts to attract tourists during this year’s Visit Laos campaign. Beginning on March 15th, Lao Airlines will operate three weekly flights between Savannakhet and the Thai capital. The introduction of this new air link aims to promote tourism during Visit Laos Year 2024.
Chanthanom Khampheng, the deputy director of Lao Airlines’ commercial and marketing department, stated that the national carrier’s new route will specifically target Thai travelers, who are among the top tourists visiting Laos. The popular destination of Luang Prabang has become more accessible for Thai tourists with the launch of the high-speed railway line from Vientiane to the Chinese border, passing through the old capital.
According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, Visit Laos Year 2024 is expected to attract 4.6 million foreign tourists. It was estimated that in 2023, the number of tourist arrivals reached at least 2.9 million.
