People Who Were Not Wearing Seat Belts during Songkran Were Responsible for 91% of Serious Injuries

During this year’s Songkran festival, there was an increase in significant injuries due to traffic accidents, according to Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Secretary General of the Thai Public Health Ministry. Of these serious injuries, 91% were brought on by persons who disregarded their seatbelts. There were 17,775 injuries, up 19.26% from the prior year, according to statistics gathered between April 11 and April 16. 232 fatalities also occurred, which was a reduction of 26.81% from the previous year. 3,814 of those hurt needed to be hospitalized, an increase of 81.84%.
