Singapore Changi Airport to build the new Terminal 5

Singapore will commence construction of a new mega terminal at Changi Airport in the first half of next year, with the goal of increasing the aviation hub’s annual passenger capacity by an additional 50 million, as reported by the Straits Times, citing Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

Currently, Changi Airport can handle 90 million passengers annually, and the upcoming Terminal 5, expected to be operational in the mid-2030s, will expand its connectivity to over 200 cities, up from nearly 150 at present.

“Some countries have announced plans for mega airports capable of accommodating more than 100 million passengers a year, thereby closing the gap with Singapore,” Wong stated during an industry dinner on Friday, according to the newspaper.
