Festival Fills Chatuchak Park with Flowers in Tribute to the Queen Mother
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is running the Colourful Flora Festival at Queen Sirikit Park in Chatuchak from August 8 to 13, open daily from 10am to 8pm. The event, held as a flora exhibition in honour of Queen Sirikit, fills the park's grounds with more than 200,000 ornamental plant varieties alongside some 60,000 Curcuma flowers spanning eight cultivars, including Snow White, Lanna Snow and Orange Impress.
Queen Sirikit Park, a botanical garden within the wider Chatuchak Park complex, was established in 1992 and named in honour of the late Queen Mother's 60th birthday. The park's fountains and lotus-filled pools provide the backdrop for this year's festival, which organisers say is intended as both a floral showcase and a tribute tied to the park's namesake.
Workshops, Markets and Competitions Round Out the Programme
Beyond the floral displays, the festival offers exhibitions, hands-on workshops and a plant and flower market, alongside local produce stalls and plant competitions. Demonstrations cover a wide range of topics, from mushroom growing and vegetable patches to Arabica coffee cultivation and sturgeon farming, giving visitors a mix of horticultural and agricultural activities to explore.
Visitors who attend the festival receive a free tree seedling to take home for their own gardens, part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's push to encourage urban greening alongside the week-long celebration. The event runs through August 13, giving Bangkok residents and visitors a final few days to see the display before it closes.
